Cymbal of Peace

Cymbal of Peace

Chainsaw- and rasp-carved carved dead Black Willow trees, brass, steel wire and pebbles installation.
Approximately 6' w X 9' h X 4' d

A study in decay, this sculpture was inspired by the natural shape of these twin Black Willow trees and a small crash cymbal food on the LRTX property, I carved these trees into a hand peace sign, using the fall-off for the other "digits". I then suspended the "Peace" (brand name) cymbal betwixt the two "fingers" and a small wooden plate of river pebbles (also found on the PRTX property) nearby and encouraged viewers to toss pebbles into the cymbal and listen to the decay - a full-circle, synesthetic finish to the sculpture.
